May’s Story!

What we can achieve when we all work together!

Myeloma UK - Buddy kniting

Golf is a sport which brings everyone and all ages together playing and competing on an even playing field, it’s the only sport you can truly say this about. However it’s more than that. Let me begin, when I joined the Facebook Myeloma UK support group I came across a fundraising post in October last year. They talked about getting a group of people together to knit and sell buddies to help raise money and awareness for the charity. At DHR we are lucky to have such a great bunch of girls, so, one day I plucked up the courage and reached out to them for help with my venture and that’s where my story began. I was overwhelmed with the support I received, they couldn’t be more supportive. Once we got started they suggested that we make Myeloma UK the charity for the Ladies 5 Day! Such was the support we started a knitting bee, alternating on a Tuesday and Thursday to accommodate everyone. It was when we started this group that someone suggested we should also host a Ladies day. The idea took off and since Christmas it’s been all hands on deck organising and planning the day!........After the first few weeks we had 123 signed up, without advertising, the story continues. I hope you’ll come along on this journey. More to come!

Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells. At any one time there are around 17,500 people living with myeloma in the UK. It accounts for 15 per cent of blood cancers, and two per cent of all cancers. Myeloma mainly affects those over the age of 65, however it has been diagnosed in people as young as 20 #wearedhr #duffhouseroyal #myelomauk #buddies
